ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

As an emerging filmmaker and cinematographer, I was influenced by the rich culture of progressive and experimental filmmaking found in the San Francisco Bay Area. Decades of work on documentaries inspired me to combine filmmaking styles with the use of personal and experimental imagery to expand the creative boundaries of film. I began to work with the subject of dreams, combining nonfiction and poetic storytelling.

It was while making my third film on the cultural exploration and interpretation of dreams, I realized this was also my grandmother’s life work. Recently, I completed “The Tower”, a short documentary about my grandmother, Christiana Morgan, and her creative and spiritual relationship with a stone tower she had built on a tidal river in Massachusetts.

Earlier in my career, I worked as a director of photography on documentary films throughout North and South America, the Middle East, Central and Southeast Asia, and Europe — 20 years of cinematography assignments documenting a wide portfolio of social, political, and environmental issues. It was only natural that I also found myself teaching filmmaking to college and secondary school students.
